Death is 2020 – sketch

I am happy to mention I have written a new bit of political sketch comedy, a script for the Politipod podcast called “Death is 2020,” where the “2020 baby” is revealed to be none other than the Grim Reaper himself.

I almost didn’t write the darn thing, at all. I had gone to bed last night knowing I hadn’t written nearly enough on it, with the following day being the deadline. I could feel myself slouching to inaction, but I had nothing to give it.

Up with the damned cat at 3:30 a.m., I finally sat down and promised myself some kind of cookie if would just sit for 30 minutes and push effort. So I got my coffee, sat down at the keyboard and… the laptop crashed. Like, froze, then I rebooted and twice it told me that I need to “reseat the memory.” Ay, that ain’t good. #Setback

Luckily, I have an old laptop to rely upon, so I slapped it on the desk, and pressed on.

I had about 167 words, the nugget of the idea: a newscaster loses his shit as he recaps December, 2020, and calls upon the spirit of the year 2020 to account for itself. It’s revealed to be Death, through a humorous turn of Ecclesiastic events.

Anyway. within an hour I was pleased to have dumped the newscaster idea, made him Trump and tripled the word count to the desired goal, while stuffing the thing like a mattress with jokes.

I’ll try to post the episode once it’s produced and posted. 🙂

Excuse me while I look for my screwdriver…

News Job, STAB! Comedy Theater

Last night, it was my pleasure to appear on News Job, the livestream production by STAB! Comedy Theater in Sacramento. Hosted by Heather Rogue, the show featured scripted and unscripted jokes on news and current events. Besides me, guests on the show included comedians Cory Barringer and Keith Graber.

I wrote some material in advance; there were several rounds of topical humor where all players contributed headline-news jokes “on the fly.” I’m glad to say I held up my end of the gig, and contributed worthy additions. I even got to include my Donald Trump “impression!”

More studying

I continue to study my SMM book by McDonald, mentioned earlier.

I’m finishing up the YouTube chapter. I am beginning to suffer from a lack of practical projects: grist for the mill. I am currently learning to swim from a book. It would do me well to get in some water.

But, I don’t have a project of my own to flog, and none of my personal contacts are ready with one, either. Approaching local business or charities is a slightly higher bar, and I don’t think I’m there, yet.

I’ll keep at it.
